Notice anything different about the Sweaty Betty boutique list..? Yep, you spotted it. MANCHESTER! Fair enough there’s been a concession in the Trafford Centre for a few years, but honestly it’s not my favourite place to travel to. Too many people in too small a space. That’s why I was overjoyed to hear that a concession was opening in the city centre Selfridges – albeit I’m a little nervous for the health of my bank account.
I first became aware of Sweaty Betty around five years ago when I subscribed to Zest magazine (may it rest in peace..) and got sent a free sports bra – very similar to the Stamina – which I still own to this day, and have added differently-coloured sisters to since. Since then whenever I’ve visited a town with a Sweaty Betty I’ve treated myself to a small purchase, almost as a souvenir of my visit, like I did in Harrogate. Since I go into Manchester every day for work or the gym I think I’m going to have to wean myself off this habit, though the concession is somewhere I will visit often for inspiration.. and the occasional treat!
The concession opens on Monday 3rd November and Sweaty Betty kindly sent me some kit to give you a sneak peek of what’s in store. It’s a little bit too mild for the marl set right now as inside there’s a soft, brushed fleece, but I’m already impressed with the attention to detail – from the large back pocket and the fold-over mittens of the top to the flat drawstring and reflective taping of the bottoms. I am getting excited about the prospect of cozy winter training. I have however already worn the compression leggings for a run with Still Waters Run Deep on Monday night. Took a bit of effort to get on but when in place the compression element refreshed the muscles in my legs after a long day on my feet at work, and helped me get through 12km of jogs, sprints and planks with the run crew.
I think Manchester is fast becoming a destination for the female fitness shopper, and we’re starting to catch London up in terms of choice and style. We as women love to try on our fit kit before buying – it’s so disappointing to send your online order back because tops ride up or leggings fall down – and I’m grateful that sportswear companies have begun to realise that!
