My Squatbot Squad events soft-launched in June with an aerial yoga session and launched fully last week with a big bang with a beginners’ strongman session, coached by the incredible Laura Hoggins of Biceps & Bronzer fame. I’ve done a bit of strongman before and thought I knew my stuff, but I learned so much about technique from Laura that I wanted to share more with you here!
Since I started training consistently 4 years ago, I’ve never really taken a big break, nor have I ever felt like I’ve lost motivation, dedication, or discipline – and I don’t say that to be a dick, I’ve just enjoyed all the different sorts of training I’ve done so much that I’ve always been eager to get there.
That’s why it’s been such a big shock to the system that the past month I just haven’t felt like training. Normally it would be the highlight of my day, so much so I’d look forward to getting to the gym to see my friends and get my body moving, but right now I dread it.
Maybe it’s that I’ve been super busy lately, or maybe I just feel burnout from constantly chasing so many different goals – I don’t know for sure. As it’s not something I’ve experienced before I can’t even advise on it, so I’ve reached out to some of my fitness blogger friends who have lots of advice to offer me, and you too, if you’re feeling that way.
How was your year? Mine was a pretty busy one! From work projects to CrossFit competitions to travelling, things have been non-stop, and honestly I haven’t had much time to reflect on my progress and assess where I was headed.
It’s so important to self-reflect, so this year I’m going to dedicate some time to it, and ensure I’m working towards my goals rather than shooting off in random directions.

Ever gotten a little dramatic or over-emotional over a workout? I know I have, and it can take me into a spiral of self-doubt and wondering why I bother exercising in the first place. “Why do I have to do this to myself?”, I think, as I angrily throw a barbell to the floor.
These lapses in motivation are nothing compared to what some people face – yet they still fight hard to train. They’ve overcome adversity like few of us have known and never use it as an excuse.
