Reformer Pilates is something I’ve looked at many a time before and thought “that looks SO GOOD” but never got around to trying for one reason or another. When we moved to Withington I realised that the wonderful Holly Thrower’s studio was literally a 2 minute walk from our flat so it would have been rude not to try it out – and I’m so glad I did. Yes, I ached the day after (a lot!) but I felt a lot more conscious of how my body moved and felt I’d really made a difference.

There’s no doubt marathon training is tough for anybody, especially if it’s your first time, but I have a very personal reason as to why it was so hard for me.
I don’t want running a marathon to be something I dine out on forever, although I honestly think it may be the biggest thing I’ve ever achieved. It’s not something I would really like to do again but I’m glad I did it and I learned a lot about myself whilst doing it.
Seeing everyone training for their spring marathons makes me think about my own marathon training experience. Scrolling through Instagram one Saturday afternoon, I chanced upon the most incredible photo of half a watermelon, stuffed with juicy chunks of watermelon, berries and grapes. Watermelon is on a list of my very favourite foods ever, so I was super psyched to find out it was actually from the Makers’ Market in Manchester city centre!
Honestly, I thought the Makers’ Market was just people selling homemade badges and scarves, so when I arrived and found all sorts of food I was so happy. I could’ve eaten everything. If you want the best of homemade fare it’s definitely worth the trip – with this being a fitness blog I’ve focused on the slightly healthier options, but you could pick up artisan pies, exquisite chocolate, and craft beers if you wished.

“I didn’t realise you had a boyfriend!”, a work friend said to me the other day. “I’ve never seen him on your Instagram”.
With my Instagram being almost entirely fitness-focused, it’s no surprise my boyfriend doesn’t feature on there – despite being together for over 7 years, we don’t train together. Sure, he enjoys going to the gym and keeping active, but because of our personalities our joint training sessions can often lead to frustration.

The ego is a little devil when it comes to weightlifting. “More weight!“, it says, and I usually comply, somehow getting through the lift using willpower alone.
