11 Things You Need To Know Before Competing At Tribal Clash Portugal

Oh, hello May! You’ve heard me mention that almost every weekend in May I’m doing a challenge, and my mega month of challenges started with a big, sunny, sandy bang with Tribal Clash Portugal. It was an incredible weekend of friends, fitness and fun, and I’d recommend it to anyone with a reasonable level of fitness.

We were lucky to have an amazing team pieced together of friends from around the UK, including John and Leon from The Lean Machines, Georgina from Fitcetera, Rhian Pearson, plus Alex Millington, who stepped in last minute for our friend Zack who was resting before Regionals. We also had Ian Runs LDN as support team who took our awesome photos! Only Rhi had done the competition before, which was fortunate as she could use her experience to help strategise for the workouts. We finished 58th out of 131 teams overall and even finished 21st in the SUP race, so we were mega pleased with that!

Throughout the weekend I kept in mind what I’d want to know before my Tribal Clash, so here’s the 11 things I think you need to know before competing at your very first Tribal Clash competition.

How YOU Can Have A Fit + Healthy Holiday In Croatia! Active Trip Dubrovnik, Hvar + Split

If you’re looking for a holiday destination that is temperate all year round, has equal parts relaxation, activity and partying, and is a short three-hour flight away from the UK, then the Croatia could be the place for you.

I recently did a trip along the Croatian coast, visiting Dubrovnik, Hvar and Split, and had an awesome time. The scenery is absolute spectacular and if you love being by the sea, then you’ll love Croatia – I’ve never travelled so much by boat!

Holidays are definitely for relaxing, and if you eat and exercise well for the rest of the year then 2 weeks isn’t going to ruin anything – but if you’re an active person or you have health and fitness goals you want to hit, you’ll want to keep moving and eat some healthy food while you’re away. It’ll also mean it’s not so much of a shock to the system when you get home and back to training!

Healthy Things To Eat + Do In Dublin

What do you get for the lady who has everything, and wants nothing? That was the dilemma I faced in December with my mum’s birthday looming. Luckily Ryanair’s Black Friday flight sale came at just the right time and it was decided: as a surprise we’d go for a whistlestop overnight stay in Dublin.

The city is famous for being loud, brash city, with plenty of pubs serving up Guinness by the pintload – but my mum doesn’t drink and I’m very much still in my January health kick, so we set about finding a few more healthy things to do! Thankfully, like most big cities, health and fitness is a big trend in Dublin right now, so there was plenty to do – and we still managed to treat ourselves along the way…

LIFE: Fit in NYC

For almost a year I managed to keep a secret from my boyfriend. Like, a huge secret. December 30th was his 30th birthday, and (I don’t mean to gush but) seeing as he has been so supportive of me over the past couple of years it was only fitting we did something very, very special. Though he knew we were going away it wasn’t until we reached the airport and had checked in he found out where he was going..

Morning of the 30th we flew to New York City. It was the first time either us had been and whilst at first I was overwhelmed by the hugeness of it all, I absolutely adored it; so much so I can easily see myself living there for a few years. Chris wanted to do some tourist things, so we did go up the Empire State, to the 9/11 memorial, and to various galleries and museums, but for me it was all about getting to know the local area and taking in the culture. We stayed on the lower West side, and I loved all the restaurants, coffee shops and stores that all had a health-focus. Food is always freshly-made with high-quality ingredients, with hot drinks crafted like they’re a work of art. We marveled at the deliciousness of all the food, then realised that when you’re competing with huge chains in somewhere as saturated as New York, you really do have to take your game to the highest level.

In fact, everything in the city that was tailored to locals was healthy. I was surprised to see so many Equinox gyms, as I thought it was a boutique, one-of-a-kind place, but it just goes to show just how big fitness is over there that it’s a huge chain in the city. Locals are clad mainly in Lycra and Asics, Brooks and Saucony running shoes, even in casual dress. I had to seek out juice bars, though when I found them they were always super busy, with people grabbing a post-workout juice and running off to work.

See why I want to live there so much?! Honestly, the bustle of the tourist areas was too much, but the individual villages within the city had a real sense of community and felt like home to me. I even made friends on our short trip, the best way I know how – running – which I’ll post about, and I also visited Strala Yoga, a studio I’d been excited about going to ever since the trip was booked.

Going through the images and writing about the city gave me some heartache as even after spending five days there I really miss it! Coming from someone who never wanted to move out of the North West, let alone England, that’s kind of a big deal. It gives me more motivation to keep working towards that opportunity that will see me living in a cute flat in Greenwich Village.
